July 2013 auto sales in Mexico grew 13.4% over the same period in 2012. Total 2013 auto sales in the Mexican market increased 9.3% over the first seven months of 2012; however, sale s are still at similar levels as those from 10 years ago.
· Total auto production in July 2013 reached 239,311 units, representing an increase in .5% over July, 2012. For the first seven months of the year, production increased 4.4% over the same period last year.
· July Mexican auto exports fell 7.3% over exports from July, 2012. Year-to-date exports total 1,353,821 units, which is 2.1% below the same period in 2012. The decrease follows a contraction in the U.S. import market.
· Total U.S. domestic auto sales reached 9,107,295 light vehicles, showing an increase of 8.4% over the first seven months of 2012.
· As for motorcycles, the following numbers were seen:
a) During the first quarter of 2013, 159,000 units were placed on the Mexican market, showing an increase of 11.2% over the first quarter of 2012.
b) Mexican Automotive Industry Association members have placed 53,503 new motorcycles on the market, which is 22.7% higher than those for the first quarter of 2012.
c) In regard to April imports, 41,431 units were placed on the market, which represents a 17.3% increase over April of the same period. In total, 159,000 units were placed on the market during the first quarter, which is 11.2% higher than last year.
