Two years ago New York’s Taxi and Limousine Commission chose the Nissan NV200 as the exclusive taxi for the city that never sleeps. This vehicle will occupy the same role as the legendary Checkers cabs that have appeared on so many movie screens in scenes depicting New York City. The new taxi was designed for the city of skyscrapers and will provide service to 600,000 daily users. The taxi will be manufactured in Nissan’s plant in the state of Morelos. Such plant is located in the Cuernavaca Valley Industrial City (Ciudad Industrial del Valle de Cuernavaca or CIVAC), which is the first Nissan plant outside of Japan. In addition to the CIVAC plant, dedicated exclusively to producing “taxis of the future,” as such have been called, the plant in Aguascalientes is also working at high capacity. It is thought that by the end of 2013, Nissan will have its third manufacturing complex up and running as part of its Mexican manufacturing capabilities, coming on the heels of a MX$2 billion peso investment.
