The Pope and the Automobile

The Pope and the Automobile

Pope Francis is the first Latin American to hold the important designation of head of the Catholic Church. In his simple and affable manner, Pope Francis referred to the automobile when criticizing church officials who drive luxury vehicles. He stated that it was a shame to see priests driving spectacular cars and advised them to use more “humble” cars. His words were in no way a condemnation of automobiles. On the contrary, he stated that automobiles are fundamental and carry out very important functions. His message was more directed to priests, who when choosing an automobile to drive, should think of the fact that some children around the world do not have enough to eat. For now, Pope Francis has decided to use a Ford Focus, like those manufactured in Mexico, in order to transport himself around the Vatican.
