Among all the subcompact vehicles sold in Mexico, the Versa and Aveo models compete for the title of first place in sales. Both vehicles are in a fierce competition to become the highest selling car in Mexico. Notwithstanding this fact, the Aveo model produced by General Motors has had the lead in sales since December of 2011. Aveo has sold at an average monthly rate of 5,200 units, while the Versa reached 3,700 vehicles. However, according to statistics from the Mexican Automotive Dealers Association (Asociación Mexicana de Distribuidores de Automotores or AMDA), the growth rate of the Japanese vehicle is much higher than that of its competitor, with the Versa growing 167% in sales versus the Aveo’s 89.1% sales growth. The Versa arrived in Mexico in July 2012, and the competition for first place will become tighter in the coming months. General Motors has demonstrated its pride and satisfaction of having the highest selling vehicle in Mexico. According the Eduardo Gelista, Sales Manager of Chevrolet Autos, its leading position is based on a value proposition that combines “an attractive exterior design with an accessible price, which are two points that are always highly valued by the consumer, and when it comes to prices, we have seven versions of the model that can be adjusted to our clients’ needs and our competition does not have this ability.”
